This collection of pictures features the market town of Whitchurch, which is the oldest continually inhabited settlement in Shropshire.
Whitchurch was founded by the Romans, whose town plan survives in the layout of the streets.
There are many notable buildings, including St Alkmund's Church.
The heart of John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, is buried under the church porch at his dying request.
Shakespeare made Talbot a principal character in Henry VI.
