Lichfield is noted for its medieval cathedral, whose three spires are often referred to as 'the Ladies of the Vale'.
The city was the birthplace of Samuel Johnson, best known for his Dictionary of the English Language.
It was also home to the scientist, poet and eminent physician Erasmus Darwin, who was grandfather to Charles Darwin.
In addition Lichfield lays claim to David Garrick, the most celebrated actor of his day, who was a friend of Dr Johnson.
