Clun Valley

Evening light on the Clun Valley, near Newcastle on Clun.
Soft light falls across a patchwork of fields in the Clun Valley, just an hour or so before sunset. I love this rolling countryside and its ancient footpaths, so it was a surprise when I realised that I hadn’t visited in more than a year. I decided to put that right over the weekend and spent several hours exploring in the beautiful spring sunshine.
This was my view from above Newcastle on Clun, with Offa’s Dyke curving across the fields in the bottom of the shot. I was standing not far from the halfway point of the 177-mile Offa’s Dyke Path, which one day I aim to tackle in full. There was still some hawthorn blossom in the hedgerows, although it won’t be there for much longer.
In the top left of the picture are the hazy slopes of Corndon Hill, which is surrounded by Shropshire on three sides but is actually in Wales. It was a glorious evening to be out - but I shan’t leave it for so long until my next visit!
