Wenlock Edge

A yew tree at sunset on Wenlock Edge, Shropshire.
The red glow of sunset lights up a gnarled old yew tree on Wenlock Edge. The tree stands above an ancient holloway, which is a sunken track created by the passage of carts, livestock and human footsteps over the centuries. Yews are known for their longevity, and this particular tree is part of a group thought to be about 600 years old. Fascinating to think how long it has been standing guard along the route - and what sights it must have witnessed.
