Field of gold in the shadow of Brown Clee
How beautiful is this - the church tower at Holdgate seen above a field of gold in the shadow of Brown Clee.

The Shropshire Way passes the churchyard gate, and walkers often stop here to enjoy stunning views over the Corvedale before going on to tackle Shropshire’s highest summit.
The village of Holdgate was once known as Holegot Castle, and it's where Fitz Holgot is said to have entertained Henry I - son of William the Conqueror - in 1109.
It all looks so tranquil, yet Holdgate was a major seat of power in south Shropshire before Ludlow was planned.
Today, Holy Trinity Church stands within the south-west bailey of a long-gone medieval castle, and the parish is one of the smallest in the Hereford diocese
