A footpath into the past at Moreton Corbet
A twisting country lane that’s a pathway into history - this is sunrise at Moreton Corbet Castle, near Shawbury.

I could hear linnets singing their hearts out in the tree above me as I set up my tripod in the early morning light.
The original fortified house on this site was replaced by a medieval castle, which became the Corbet family's ancestral home.
The building was devastated during the English Civil War and in turn gave way to an Elizabethan mansion.
Sadly, the work was never completed and today Moreton Corbet survives as an empty yet romantic shell.
The Corbet family still owns the castle, although the site is now managed by English Heritage.
