A path between the giants on Linley Hill
A walk among giants - here is the majestic avenue of beech trees on Linley Hill, near Norbury.

This glorious sight is the legacy of local MP Robert More, who planted the trees around 1740.
More was a noted amateur botanist who built nearby Linley Hall.
At one time it was thought that the trees were planted by Napoleonic prisoners of war, but this has been disproved by tree-dating technology.
This is the route you take on Stage 2 of the Shropshire Way, between Bridges and Bishop’s Castle.
The figure you can see walking between the trees is my dad, who does an excellent job of providing a sense of scale!
