A walk into autumn along Wenlock Edge

Can anyone else imagine four Hobbits hiding from a Black Rider along this path on Wenlock Edge?

A walk into autumn along Wenlock Edge

Or perhaps Gandalf striding out from beneath that ancient yew tree?

There were plenty of opportunities to let my imagination wander on a day spent exploring autumn footpaths up and down the Edge, from Much Wenlock to Rushbury.

I came across only a handful of people, and at times it was almost as if I had the whole place to myself.

This autumn must be one of the best we have seen for years - the colours have been incredible, turning a simple walk into a true feast for the senses.

I couldn't resist following this carpet of glorious, crunchy orange leaves along Wenlock Edge, but I knew the shot needed something extra.

I didn't have to wait too long before some dog walkers wandered into view and completed the picture - getting those figures in the distance makes all the difference.

Which path to take - the Shropshire Way, the Jack Mytton Way or the Lea Quarry Walk? Or how about the Shrewsbury Ramblers Walk?

I’ve spent a lot of time on Wenlock Edge this year and it’s been great to explore a place I didn’t know very well.

The best of the autumn colour is behind us now, but the air is crisp and the countryside is still calling before the blasts of winter arrive!
